Our server sends repeated HTTPS requests to the host you enter and records the round-trip time of each one. It reports minimum, average and maximum latency along with jitter and packet loss.
The classic ping command uses ICMP packets. Web servers commonly block ICMP, so we measure HTTPS round-trip time instead — it is slightly higher but reflects real browsing latency.
Under 50 ms is excellent, 50-150 ms is normal for cross-border routes, 150-300 ms feels sluggish for calls and gaming, and above 300 ms indicates a routing or congestion problem.
Jitter is the variation between consecutive latency samples. Low jitter means a stable connection; high jitter causes choppy voice and video even when average latency looks fine.
Overloaded routers, faulty cables, congested ISP links, or a firewall on the target host. Any consistent loss above 1-2% should be investigated.
